Adobe Firefly is a family of generative AI models that creates images, vectors, patterns, and design templates from text descriptions typed by the user. Launched in public beta in March 2023 and reaching general availability in September 2023, it is built into Photoshop, Illustrator, Express, and other Adobe apps — and is also available as a standalone web tool at firefly.adobe.com.

Firefly uses a diffusion-based generative AI architecture trained on Adobe Stock images, openly licensed content, and public domain material — not on subscribers' personal files. Adobe markets it as "commercially safe," meaning enterprise customers receive IP indemnification for outputs. The platform operates on a generative credit system tied to Creative Cloud subscriptions, with standalone Firefly Standard and Pro tiers introduced in February 2025. By October 2024, users had made over 13 billion image generations.
