Terms of Use
Last updated August 2026 · These terms cover the AI Trace website, its API, submissions, and donations. The researcher portal at platform.aitrace.org has its own terms.
1. Who we are, and your agreement
AI Trace is operated by Trace Foundation, Inc., a Massachusetts nonprofit corporation (“Trace,” “we”). By using this site — and especially by submitting content, following a company, requesting an API key, or donating — you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference.
2. Informational purposes; no warranty
The AI Trace transparency platform is provided for informational purposes only. While we strive for accuracy, entries reflect community-contributed information and publicly available sources. We make no guarantees about the completeness or timeliness of any entry.
THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. Entries describe our good-faith understanding of publicly reported information at a point in time; they are not statements of legal conclusion about any company, and they should not be the sole basis for financial, legal, or purchasing decisions. If you believe an entry is wrong, use the dispute process on the entry's page — we correct the record when the evidence supports it.
3. No automated scraping or bulk downloading
You may not use automated tools, bots, scrapers, or any other automated means to access, download, or copy content from this platform in bulk. Programmatic access to the API is limited to reasonable, non-commercial use. Systematic or bulk downloading of platform contents is prohibited.
4. API access
API keys are issued at our discretion and may be rate-limited, suspended, or revoked at any time, with or without notice, including for violations of these terms or of the use case described in your key request. The API is provided without any warranty of availability or continuity. You may not resell, sublicense, or provide the API (or bulk data obtained from it) as a service to third parties. Use of data obtained through the API remains subject to Section 3.
5. Submissions
All submissions must be factual and made in good faith. Submissions should be based on verifiable information from credible sources. Deliberately submitting false, misleading, or spam content is prohibited and may result in your submissions being removed and your access restricted.
By submitting content to AI Trace — including descriptions, screenshots, dispute text, and evidence links — you grant Trace Foundation, Inc. a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, reproduce, adapt, publish, and publicly display that content as part of the platform and its data releases. You represent that you have the right to submit the content and that it does not violate another person's rights or any law. You keep whatever ownership you have. Today, submissions are used only as leads for editorial review and are not republished — entries are discovered and drafted by our automated research pipeline and reviewed by our editors, from cited public sources — but this license is what lets us store your submission and keeps our options open.
We may remove any submission at any time (see Section 6), and removal does not terminate the license for copies already lawfully distributed (for example, in a published dataset release).
6. Editorial discretion
The Trace Foundation reserves the right to edit, update, or remove any content at its discretion. This includes correcting inaccuracies, removing unverified claims, and moderating content that does not meet our quality or neutrality standards. All changes are recorded in the public edit history.
7. Intellectual property
The selection, arrangement, and editorial presentation of the AI Trace platform is protected by copyright. Individual facts about companies' use of AI are not owned by us, but the compilation, categorization, and presentation of those facts is the intellectual property of Trace Foundation, Inc.
Company names and logos shown on this site are the trademarks of their respective owners. They are used only to identify the companies being discussed, and their appearance does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement of AI Trace.
8. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on this site infringes your copyright, follow the process in our Copyright & DMCA Policy. Notices go to legal@aitrace.org.
9. Donations
Donations to Trace Foundation, Inc. support the platform's operation and are not payment for goods or services. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. Monthly donations recur automatically until cancelled — you can cancel anytime via the link in your Stripe receipt email or by emailing hello@aitrace.org, effective from the next billing cycle. If you donated the wrong amount or donated by mistake, email hello@aitrace.org within 30 days and we will refund the donation. Trace Foundation, Inc. is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and no goods or services are provided in exchange.
10. Access and termination
We may restrict, suspend, or terminate access to the site, the API, or the submission and dispute systems for any violation of these terms, for repeated copyright infringement (see our Copyright & DMCA Policy), or to protect the integrity of the platform. Where practical we will say why.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TRACE FOUNDATION, INC., ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, VOLUNTEERS, AND CONTRIBUTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR ITS CONTENT. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SITE WILL NOT EXCEED FIFTY US DOLLARS (US$50). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
12. Indemnification
If you submit content to AI Trace, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Trace Foundation, Inc. from claims, damages, and reasonable legal costs arising from that content or from your violation of these terms — for example, a submission that infringes someone's copyright or that you did not have the right to share.
13. Governing law and venue
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or the site will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
14. General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them to a successor of the foundation. These terms and the policies they reference are the entire agreement between you and Trace regarding the site.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The “last updated” date above always reflects the current version, and material changes will be noted on this page. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
