Framework offers laptops and a desktop that include a dedicated AI processor — called a neural processing unit (NPU) — built into the chip, allowing AI tasks to run directly on the device without an internet connection. This capability first appeared in mid-2024 with Intel Core Ultra chips and expanded in early 2025 to AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series chips across the Laptop 13, Laptop 16, and Desktop product lines.

The Laptop 16 was updated with AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series chips in August 2025, with shipments beginning in late 2025, extending NPU availability to that product line as well. The AI capability comes entirely from chip suppliers AMD and Intel; Framework does not develop any proprietary AI software.
