iStock offers a suite of AI-powered image editing tools that allow users to modify both AI-generated images and licensed photos from iStock's library, including tools for inpainting, background removal, outpainting, and product background replacement. These features, developed with Bria, have been progressively rolled out from early 2024 through 2025.

The editing suite includes: Refine (inpainting — users brush over an area and describe a replacement via text prompt, launched March 2024); Extend (outpainting — expands an image to new aspect ratios by filling in surrounding areas, launched 2024); Remove Background (AI automatically detects and removes the background of an image, producing a transparent PNG); Replace Background (removes and replaces a background with a new AI-generated or solid-color scene); and Product Shot (users upload a product photo, the AI removes its background, and generates a new scene around it, launched November 2024). A 'Keep look and feel' (seed-locking) feature was added in February 2025. All tools are powered by a custom model built in partnership with Bria and are available on the iStock website and via API.
