Krita Foundation offers the Fast Sketch Cleanup Plugin, an experimental tool that uses a neural network to automatically convert a hand-drawn sketch into cleaned-up line art, helping artists with the inking step of their workflow. The plugin was developed in partnership with Intel and first released in December 2024.

The plugin takes a raster image of a hand-drawn sketch as input and produces a new layer containing cleaned-up, inked-style lines. It uses a convolutional neural network model trained by the Krita team exclusively on artwork donated by community members. The model runs entirely on the user's local machine — no internet connection, server, or account is required. As of February 2025, an updated version (1.1.0) was released with an improved interface, pre- and post-processing options, and support for custom models. The plugin is described as still experimental and available for Windows and Linux.
