Nasuni provides guidance and technical tools that allow its customers to build their own AI chatbots — using Microsoft Copilot Studio — that can answer questions based on files the company already stores in Nasuni. Nasuni also built its own internal chatbot called "Ask Nasuni," which runs inside Microsoft Teams and allows employees to ask questions answered by the company's own documents. This guidance was released in April 2024.

The chatbot architecture uses Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), where the AI searches for relevant documents first, then uses a large language model to synthesize an answer grounded in those actual files — reducing the risk of the AI fabricating incorrect information. Microsoft Copilot Studio handles text extraction and vector embedding (converting documents into numerical representations that AI can compare and search). Nasuni confirmed at least two customers — McKim & Creed and RWDI — began building Copilot chatbots from their Nasuni data. Nasuni built and deployed its own internal 'Ask Nasuni' chatbot for employee use within Microsoft Teams.
