DALL-E 3 improved on earlier versions by using a large language model to automatically expand and clarify user prompts before generating the image, making results more accurate to what users asked for. The system includes safety filters that screen both the incoming prompt and the resulting image before showing it to users; it declines requests involving named public figures or images in the style of living artists. In March 2025, DALL-E 3 inside ChatGPT was replaced by a newer image generation system called GPT Image, and the DALL-E 3 API is scheduled for deprecation on May 12, 2026.
