OpenAI lets anyone build a personalized version of ChatGPT for a specific job — like a cooking helper, a coding tutor, or a customer service bot — without writing any code. These are called Custom GPTs. Since January 2024, they can also be shared or sold through the GPT Store marketplace.

Users create Custom GPTs by providing written instructions, uploading reference documents (up to 20 files), and switching on capabilities such as web search, code execution, image generation, and connections to external services through the API. The GPT Store launched January 10, 2024 with community leaderboards and editorial curation across categories like writing, research, programming, and lifestyle. Enterprise users building GPTs can choose from the full lineup of OpenAI models, including GPT-5.1, GPT-5.2, o3, and o4-mini.
