ChatGPT can connect to dozens of external tools — like Google Drive, Outlook, GitHub, and Jira — allowing users to search documents, draft emails, create tasks, and take other actions across those services without leaving the chat. These connections are called Apps and are built on a standard called MCP (Model Context Protocol).

What began as "plugins" in 2023 became "Connectors" and was rebranded "Apps" in December 2025. Pre-built integrations include Google Drive, SharePoint, Dropbox, Box, Gmail, Outlook, Google Calendar, Linear, GitHub, HubSpot, Microsoft Teams, and Atlassian (Jira and Confluence). Unlike earlier read-only integrations, Apps now support write actions — ChatGPT can create Jira tickets, draft emails, create Google Docs or Sheets, and trigger automated workflows. A Developer Mode (in beta) allows companies to connect their own internal tools via custom MCP servers.
