The Genius X toothbrush, first announced at MWC 2019 and launched in October 2019, was Oral-B's first product to feature AI Brushing Recognition. The AI algorithm was trained on data from more than 2,000 brushing sessions to understand diverse brushing styles; it uses motion sensors and gyroscopes in the brush handle to classify which of up to 16 zones of the mouth is being brushed at any given moment, then sends that data via Bluetooth to the Oral-B app. The app displays a real-time 3D map of tooth coverage and provides post-session coaching tips on pressure, duration, and missed zones. This AI feature expanded to the iO Series (iO Series 5 and above), with the iO Series 10 (announced CES 2022) adding live zone coaching via an iO Sense smart charger base in addition to the app. Oral-B's own app store descriptions confirm AI Brushing Recognition is present in Genius X and iO Series models.
