OverDrive's CEO has said the company plans to expand its AI book recommendation feature into a single discovery tool that covers films, magazines, comics, and other media alongside books and audiobooks. No launch date has been announced. This is a stated intention, not a live feature.

In an October 2025 interview, CEO Steve Potash described a future state in which a single AI-powered query — such as a topic or mood — would return results spanning ebooks, audiobooks, Kanopy's library of over 30,000 films and documentaries, magazines, newspapers, comics, and manga. This would require integrating OverDrive's full product ecosystem, including its Sora student app and Kanopy streaming platform. No technical details, partnership agreements, or timelines have been made public.
