Spotify deployed automatic transcripts, chapter markers, and guest and topic tags for eligible podcast episodes via Spotify for Creators, beginning in September 2023 and expanding through 2024. The AI takes episode audio as input and produces time-synced text transcripts, chapter breakdowns, and topic or guest labels that improve searchability, accessibility, and listener navigation on the platform.

Details

Spotify announced the transcript rollout on September 28, 2023, and began a limited rollout of its AI chapterization model (called PODTILE) in April 2024. The chapterization model uses large language models to generate chapter boundaries and titles from episode transcripts. Transcripts also power guest and topic tag identification, which surfaces content across Spotify's recommendation and search systems. Both transcripts and auto-chapters are gated behind an eligibility requirement; as of mid-2025, automatic chapters are generated only in English and are not available to all shows. Creators can edit or override auto-generated content via Spotify for Creators.
