Spotify offers Premium subscribers a feature called AI Playlist, which generates a personalized playlist from a free-text prompt describing a mood, scenario, or feeling. A user can type something like "songs for a rainy Sunday morning" and receive a curated set of tracks matched to that prompt and their listening history. In December 2025, Spotify began testing an evolution called Prompted Playlist, which accepts longer, more detailed prompts and draws on a user's full listening history back to the day they joined.

Spotify launched AI Playlist in beta in April 2024 for Premium users on Android and iOS in the UK and Australia. In September 2024, the feature expanded to the US, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand, still in beta. In December 2025, Spotify began testing a follow-on feature, Prompted Playlist, with Premium users in New Zealand; it expanded to the US and Canada in January 2026. Prompted Playlist accepts longer, more conversational prompts, draws on a user's full listening history since joining, factors in real-time music trends, and lets users set daily or weekly refresh schedules, with each song accompanied by a brief explanation of why it was included. Co-President Gustav Söderström described the feature as giving users the power to steer the algorithm.
