The tool is available to employees via Slack and a secure local app, reducing the burden on game engine support staff.

Hisui-chan was built by Square Enix's AI & Engine Development Division using Azure Functions, Azure AI Search, Azure Blob storage, Azure AI Translator, and Azure OpenAI Service (GPT-4). When a developer posts a question in Slack, the system uses retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to search internal documents and generate an answer. Further evolutions expanded the tool to include automatic generation of Python code and direct integration with the game engine, enabling developers to auto-generate data they can verify in-engine.
