The system scans all six sides of every case as it enters the warehouse, detecting product orientation, dimensions, and hazardous material markings. During storage and retrieval, SymBots use binocular vision (two cameras working together for depth perception) plus 3D cameras to validate case sizes and monitor their own cargo bays in transit. On the outbound side, 3D vision maps the full pallet area to guide precise case placement and automatically corrects for misaligned cases. Symbotic's computer vision work spans deep learning techniques including object detection, classification, segmentation, and pose estimation, deployed on NVIDIA Jetson edge hardware. In 2024, Symbotic acquired Veo Robotics' FreeMove 3D depth-sensing safety system, which dynamically tracks humans near robots and automatically restricts robot motion to prevent injury.
