Announced at TwitchCon Las Vegas in October 2023, Smart Detection tailors AutoMod to each channel by learning from the approve/deny decisions of streamers and their moderators. The Twitch Help page describes it as a category within AutoMod that detects unwanted messages based on mod actions taken in a channel. A GDC 2025 Machine Learning Summit session on Twitch chat safety described scalable NLP models, a multi-cycle model development process, and the use of LLMs for data labeling. A secondary source from August 2024 reported that Twitch expanded Smart Detection from English to 13 additional languages.
