Details
Gradescope's AI-assisted grouping feature uses machine learning to cluster student responses by similarity, enabling instructors to apply a single grade or comment to an entire cluster. It supports handwritten exam scans, typed responses, and programming assignments. Gradescope is integrated directly into Canvas, UMass Amherst's learning management system (the platform used to distribute course materials and collect assignments). The UMass system piloted Gradescope at UMass Lowell in Spring 2019; it is now actively promoted to Amherst faculty through the IDEAS instructional design team and is used by the Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences.
