UTK uses AI-powered proctoring tools — primarily YuJa Verity, and also Proctorio — to monitor students during online exams. These tools use a student's webcam and behavior patterns to flag potential cheating, which instructors then review.

YuJa Verity has been adopted as UTK's primary online proctoring platform, offering automated proctoring, live proctoring, a lockdown browser application, and identity verification. Proctorio, which uses machine learning and facial detection technology, also remains listed among UTK's approved assessment tools. Both integrate directly with Online@UT (Canvas). UTK's UT System AI policy (BT0035, effective February 2025) explicitly states that results from AI detection tools cannot be the sole factor in determining academic misconduct — they must be used alongside other evidence.
