Extension Privacy Policy
AI Trace Browser Extension (Chrome & Firefox)
Last updated April 2026
What the extension reads
The AI Trace browser extension reads only the current tab URL to identify the website you are visiting. This URL is compared against a locally bundled mapping of company domains. No URLs, browsing history, or personal data are transmitted to AI Trace servers.
API requests
When you visit a recognized company website, the extension makes a single API request to aitrace.org to retrieve publicly available company data. This request contains only the company identifier (slug), not the full URL you visited.
What the extension does NOT do
- Does NOT access or read page content
- Does NOT inject scripts into web pages
- Does NOT track browsing history or navigation patterns
- Does NOT collect, transmit, or store personal data
- Does NOT use analytics, telemetry, or tracking services
- Does NOT require a user account
Local caching
API responses are cached locally in your browser's extension storage for 24 hours. This data is public information already available at aitrace.org.
Permissions
The extension requests only two permissions:
- activeTab: to read the URL of the currently active tab
- storage: to cache API responses locally
Source code
Source code is not yet publicly available.
