Details
The MAX78000 is an AI microcontroller featuring an Arm Cortex-M4, a RISC-V coprocessor, and a hardware-based convolutional neural network (CNN) accelerator with 442 KB of weight memory. The hardware CNN accelerator enables AI inference at under one microjoule of energy per operation, making it suited for battery-powered applications. Originally developed by Maxim Integrated and launched in October 2020, it became part of the ADI portfolio after ADI acquired Maxim in 2021. A follow-on product, the MAX78002, launched in 2022 under ADI stewardship with a larger CNN engine. Documented inference applications include face detection, keyword spotting, action recognition, and condition-based motor monitoring.
