Bandcamp uses its Acceptable Use Policy to prohibit all users from scraping, data mining, or ingesting Bandcamp content into machine learning or AI models. This policy closes Bandcamp's music catalog off from use as AI training data by third parties.

Bandcamp's Acceptable Use and Moderation policy explicitly prohibits users from undertaking 'any form of text and/or data mining of content' and from training 'any machine learning or AI model using content on our site or otherwise ingest any data or content from Bandcamp's platform into a machine learning or AI model.' The policy also bans creating, developing, using, or offering any 'Unauthorised AI Tools,' defined as AI services trained on copyrighted works without rights-holder authorization. These prohibitions apply to all users of the platform globally and are enforced through the platform's terms of service.

Bandcamp deployed a policy banning music generated wholly or substantially by AI, with enforcement handled entirely by human reviewers rather than automated tools. Users can flag suspected AI-generated content using platform reporting tools, which routes submissions to a human review team.

In January 2026, Bandcamp published a policy titled 'Keeping Bandcamp Human,' prohibiting music and audio 'generated wholly or in substantial part by AI' and barring AI-enabled impersonation of other artists or styles. The platform explicitly states in its Acceptable Use and Moderation policy that 'we do not use algorithmic tools in making these decisions' and that 'all such decisions are made by a team of humans.' Community members are asked to flag suspected AI-generated releases using reporting tools, after which a human team reviews the content and may remove it. Bandcamp reserves the right to remove music on suspicion of AI generation without requiring verified proof.
