Cohere Health deployed Review Assist, an AI-powered assistant that helps health plan nurse reviewers complete complex prior authorization medical necessity reviews up to 50% faster by automatically surfacing relevant clinical evidence buried in hundreds of pages of patient records.

Review Assist uses Cohere's clinically trained AI and fine-tuned large language models (LLMs) to analyze unstructured and structured clinical data in real time, extract relevant evidence, and present actionable insights with citations linked to source documentation. The tool overlays existing utilization management (UM) workflows and includes a case summary generator, AI-based primary condition identification, clinical indication validation, and an agentic AI chatbot called Casey that can answer specific clinical questions. Cohere publicly confirms that prior authorization reviews have historically been highly manual, requiring reviewers to sift through hundreds of pages of clinical records. Review Assist was launched in June 2025 and is available to health plans immediately.
