In April 2025, Epic acquired Loci, an AI company whose tools automatically tag, label, and categorize 3D digital assets using computer vision. The technology is being integrated into Epic's Fab marketplace to improve how artists and developers search for and find 3D content — and to help detect stolen or duplicate assets.

Loci was founded by AI researchers from Cambridge, MIT, and Oxford, and its machine learning models were trained on over one million 3D assets. The system uses computer vision to analyze the visual and structural properties of 3D objects and assign searchable tags automatically — a task that previously required manual effort from content teams. Beyond discoverability, Loci's 3D similarity detection capability is being applied to identify stolen intellectual property in marketplace submissions and flag AI-generated content. The technology directly supports the content moderation effort described in Practice 9.
