Google offers enterprise AI tools for healthcare organizations to analyze patient data, medical imaging, and clinical records through Google Cloud's Vertex AI platform; the standalone MedLM model family was deprecated in September 2025 and replaced by MedGemma, an open-source collection of medical AI models released in May 2025 and built on Gemma 3. MedGemma is available for free download by healthcare developers worldwide.

MedLM (launched December 2023 on Vertex AI) was deprecated as of September 29, 2025. Google replaced it with MedGemma, a collection of open models for medical text and image comprehension built on Gemma 3, released in May 2025. MedGemma includes 4B multimodal and 27B text-only and multimodal variants supporting tasks such as chest X-ray interpretation, clinical note summarization, patient triage, and electronic health record analysis. Vertex AI Search for Healthcare remains generally available (launched October 2024) for healthcare search and clinical data retrieval. Customers include HCA Healthcare (clinical note automation), Insmed (drug discovery literature search), and DeepHealth (chest X-ray triaging). MedGemma is offered as an open model through Google's Health AI Developer Foundations (HAI-DEF) program.
