Hologic deployed Genius AI Detection, a deep learning software that analyzes 3D mammography images and flags areas suspicious for breast cancer for radiologist review. The software received FDA clearance in December 2020 and is used with Hologic's 3D Mammography systems.

Genius AI Detection is a deep learning algorithm trained on large databases of mammograms that searches each slice of a digital breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography) image set, highlights suspicious lesions at radiologists' workstations, and assigns a case-level priority score. The software is the only deep learning product in this category that runs directly on the mammography system's acquisition workstation without a separate server. Studies showed the software improved reader sensitivity for cancer cases by 9% and correctly flagged approximately 90% of previously identified cancer cases.
