Luma AI offers Photon and Photon Flash, a pair of AI image generation models that convert text prompts or reference images into high-resolution still images at up to 1080p. These models are available via the Dream Machine platform and the Luma API.

Photon and Photon Flash were released in late 2024. Both are built on a Universal Transformer architecture — distinct from the diffusion models used by most competitors — enabling a large context window and multi-turn editing workflows. Photon supports character consistency from a single reference image. Photon is priced at approximately $0.015 per 1080p image; Photon Flash at approximately $0.004. Both are accessible through the Luma API and within Dream Machine.
