The platform, built in partnership with K Health (a New York AI firm), launched September 9, 2025, initially for the approximately 15,000 Mass General Brigham patients without a primary care provider. The AI chatbot interviews the patient about their symptoms, reviews their existing medical records, and sends a summary — including, in some cases, a suggested diagnosis and treatment plan — to one of 12 physicians who staff the service remotely. In February 2026, MGB expanded access to patients who have a primary care doctor but need urgent care outside office hours. The service was also rebranded to '24/7 Virtual Care.'
