The tool is being developed through the IBM Sustainability Accelerator program, for which Mass General Brigham was one of five organizations selected out of more than 100 applicants. The planned system will use patient health records — including age, health conditions, medications, and home location — to identify which patients are most vulnerable during extreme heat events. It will then generate patient-specific alerts and suggest risk-reduction actions for patients and clinicians. Initial testing is planned at Mass General Brigham hospitals. As of July 2025, the tool was still in development and had not yet been deployed; sources describe a two-year development timeline.
