The Nintendo Switch 2, launched globally on June 5, 2025, uses a custom Nvidia processor with dedicated Tensor Cores that power DLSS upscaling. Nintendo director Takuhiro Dohta confirmed the use of DLSS in an April 2025 developer roundtable, stating developers can choose whether to use native resolution or upscaled output. Two variants of DLSS are available on the hardware: a standard CNN-based model that upscales to 1080p, and a lighter 'DLSS Light' version capable of upscaling to higher resolutions including 4K when docked. The original machine learning image upscaling patent, filed by Nintendo's NERD subsidiary, dates back to March 2020.
