Photopea offers a one-click AI background removal feature called Remove BG, which automatically detects and removes the background from a photo. It is available to all users of the web editor at no cost, subject to daily usage limits for free accounts.

The Remove BG feature is accessible via Select > Remove BG in the top menu. It uses AI to automatically detect the foreground subject and delete the background, producing an image with a transparent background that can be exported as PNG. A separate semi-manual tool called Magic Cut is also available for more complex images requiring user guidance. Free users can use AI features including Remove BG once per day; premium subscribers receive 3,000 AI credits per month.

Photopea offers a text-to-image feature powered by Stable Diffusion, allowing users to generate new images from written text prompts directly inside the editor. The feature is available to all users, with higher usage limits for premium subscribers.

Photopea integrated text-to-image AI generation via a plugin accessible through Window > More > Text to Image, using models such as Stable Diffusion. Users can type a text description and the AI produces a new image, or it can be used to fill in masked (blank) areas of an existing photo. The feature relies on third-party API providers such as Dezgo; users can enter their own Dezgo API key for extended credits.

Photopea offers a Spot Healing Brush, which the company describes as a smart AI tool that removes unwanted objects or blemishes from a photo by analyzing surrounding pixels and filling the selected area with matching content. It is available to all users at no cost.

The Spot Healing Brush is documented on Photopea's official learn pages under "Smart Tools" with the description that these tools use artificial intelligence. A user draws over an unwanted area, and the AI analyzes surrounding pixels to generate replacement content that blends in naturally—for example, replacing a stone on a beach with sand texture. Photopea states the tool typically completes in 1–5 seconds. This is distinct from the Magic Replace tool: Spot Healing does not require a text prompt and works from surrounding image context alone.
