SAG-AFTRA offers its members the option to contribute their voices to the training of a foundational AI voice model being built by Ethovox, under an agreement signed in October 2024 that requires informed consent and provides session fees plus ongoing revenue sharing. The foundational model itself is not user-facing and individual voices will not be identifiable in its output.

Announced in October 2024, the agreement with Ethovox — a voice AI company co-founded by and managed by voice actors — allows SAG-AFTRA members who voluntarily choose to participate to provide voice recordings that Ethovox uses to build a foundational AI voice model. A foundational voice model requires large volumes of voice data and serves as the underlying basis from which digital replicas can later be generated; individual contributors' voices are not identifiable in the model's output. Compensation includes session fees and ongoing revenue sharing for the life of the foundational model. The agreement was approved by SAG-AFTRA's Corporate/Educational & Non-Broadcast Committee and National Executive Committee.
