Details
Beginning at least in 2022 and continuing through 2025, SAG-AFTRA has engaged in extensive AI policy work including: co-founding the Human Artistry Campaign (March 2023); co-drafting and supporting the federal NO FAKES Act (which would create a federal right against nonconsensual digital replicas); supporting the Tennessee ELVIS Act (signed 2024); supporting California AB 1836 and AB 2602 (signed 2024); submitting comments to the U.S. Copyright Office, FCC, and FTC on AI and digital replicas; and testifying before Congress in support of performer protections. In July 2025, SAG-AFTRA successfully lobbied for the removal of a federal provision in the 2025 tax and spending bill that would have barred states from regulating AI.
