Shutterstock offers a consumer-facing AI image/video generator that lets anyone type a description and receive licensable, commercially safe images in seconds, without needing design skills. The tool supports multiple AI models and styles.

Shutterstock launched its AI image/video generation platform in January 2023, making it available to all customers globally in every language the site supports. As of 2025, the generator is powered by multiple models including Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash, Imagen 4 Ultra, GPT Image 1.5 from OpenAI, and Gen-4 by Runway. The platform also includes Prompt Enrichment, which uses AI to suggest stronger, more detailed versions of user prompts. A notable controversy has been creator concern about their work being used to train the underlying models, though Shutterstock runs a Contributor Fund that compensates artists whose content was used in training.
