Skylum offers three generative AI tools in Luminar Neo — GenErase, GenSwap, and GenExpand — that allow photographers to remove unwanted objects, swap image elements for AI-generated alternatives, or extend a photo's canvas beyond its original borders. These tools were rolled out to paying subscribers and upgrade-pass holders starting in October 2023.

The three tools use a Stable Diffusion-based generative AI model combined with Skylum's own Upscale AI pipeline, producing outputs up to 1536×1536 pixel resolution. GenErase takes a user-selected region of an image as input and outputs a seamlessly filled replacement area using content-aware AI. GenSwap accepts a user-selected area plus a text prompt and outputs an AI-generated visual element in its place. GenExpand takes the existing image and outputs an extended canvas filled with AI-generated scenery. Processing runs in the cloud, requiring an internet connection. Generative tool access is time-limited for perpetual license holders (one year from purchase) and available to active subscribers.
