Topaz Labs deployed Astra in June 2025, a web-based AI video upscaling tool that takes AI-generated or traditionally recorded video footage and produces upscaled 4K video with enhanced or creatively added detail.

Astra is a cloud-only web application powered by Topaz Labs' Starlight AI models. It offers two modes: Precise (upscales while maintaining original structure) and Creative (uses diffusion-based generative AI to reimagine and add new visual detail). It also supports frame interpolation to increase frame rates up to 120fps or create slow-motion effects. Astra was launched in early access in June 2025 and is designed primarily for AI-generated video from platforms like Runway, Kling, and Veo, though it also works on traditional footage. The CEO stated the model is cloud-only because it is too large and computationally expensive to run locally.
