The in-store program — called Missed Scan Detection — uses computer vision cameras positioned at checkout lanes to compare what goes into bags against what the register has recorded as scanned. It was built in partnership with Everseen AI and was confirmed at more than 1,000 locations by mid-2019. Walmart has also piloted technology from Edgify AI to detect barcode-switching fraud at self-checkout. For the marketplace, AI and real-time monitoring review product listings for intellectual property violations, with machine learning and human oversight working together. For financial crimes, Walmart's team uses machine learning models that go beyond detecting unauthorized transactions to identify patterns of app misuse, social engineering, and policy exploitation. Walmart reported investing over $500 million in crime prevention across its operations.
