mazon Q Developer is an AI assistant built into coding environments that writes code, reviews it for bugs and security flaws, generates tests, and updates legacy software — all from a developer's plain-language instructions. It effectively automates the most time-consuming parts of software development.

Details

AWS launched Amazon Q Developer in general availability in April 2024, absorbing the earlier CodeWhisperer product. At re:Invent 2024, AWS announced major expansions including automated unit testing, documentation generation, and operational troubleshooting. AWS described it as "the most capable generative AI-powered assistant for software development." Amazon itself deployed Q Developer to thousands of its own developers and reported a significant jump in productivity. Customer Novacomp reportedly used it to upgrade over 10,000 lines of Java code in 50 minutes, a task estimated at three weeks manually.
