Amazon Q Developer takes natural language instructions and existing codebases as input and produces new code, test suites, documentation, security fixes, and architectural recommendations as output. It integrates directly into IDEs including VS Code, JetBrains, Eclipse, and GitHub, and operates as an agentic system capable of executing multi-file changes autonomously in a sandboxed environment. In April 2025, AWS expanded Q Developer's language support to include C# and C++, and made it available in the GitHub Marketplace. AWS internally deployed Q Developer across thousands of its own engineers and used it to upgrade 1,000 applications from Java 8 to Java 17 in two days — a task that previously took months.
