Capture One offers AI Masking, a set of tools that automatically identifies and selects the subject, background, or specific body parts in a photo with a single click, letting photographers apply targeted edits without hand-painting selections.

First introduced in Capture One 16.3.0 (October 2023), AI Masking includes Subject Masking, Background Masking, an AI Select cursor tool, and AI Eraser. Version 16.5.0 (October 2024) added People Masking, which uses AI to isolate specific facial and body areas such as skin, eyes, eyebrows, lips, and hair. The system accepts RAW image data as input and outputs a precision mask layer that can be used for localized adjustments. GPU acceleration was added in version 16.4.0, making Subject and Background masking up to 4x faster and AI Select up to 18x faster.
