DraftKings announced the acquisition of Simplebet in August 2024, bringing in-house an algorithm-oriented live betting platform that uses machine learning and automation to generate and price micro-markets—bets on outcomes within individual moments of a game, such as the result of the next pitch in baseball. The combined machine learning libraries of Simplebet and DraftKings were described in the official press release as an opportunity to 'step-change DraftKings' machine learning operations.' By 2026, DraftKings reported offering over 500 live betting options per game, up from around 124 in 2022, with more than half of its sportsbook handle coming from in-play betting.
