MathWorks offers the MATLAB Agentic Toolkit and Simulink Agentic Toolkit, free open-source tools that connect third-party AI coding agents to a live MATLAB or Simulink session so agents can autonomously write, run, test, and debug code without manual copy-pasting. These were released in April 2026.

The MATLAB Agentic Toolkit works by installing a local Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that gives AI agents — such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, and Gemini CLI — direct access to a running MATLAB instance. The toolkit provides curated 'agent skills' (expertise files) teaching agents MATLAB and Simulink conventions and best practices. The Simulink Agentic Toolkit extends this to Simulink model editing, simulation, debugging, and testing. Both toolkits are free and open-source but require a local MATLAB license and a subscription to a third-party AI service.
