MathWorks offers the MATLAB AI Chat Playground, a publicly accessible AI chatbot built on OpenAI's models that answers MATLAB-related technical questions and generates MATLAB code. It launched in November 2023 and is available to all MATLAB Central community members.

The AI Chat Playground is hosted on MATLAB Central and is accessible to any user with a MathWorks account. It is optimized for MATLAB-related queries — including toolboxes for deep learning, statistics, optimization, control systems, and signal processing — and has limited knowledge of Simulink and other MathWorks products. The tool was initially built on GPT-3.5, upgraded to GPT-4o-mini in September 2024, and integrated retrieval-augmented generation in January 2025. Availability is limited to countries where OpenAI's API is supported.
