Announced in August 2024, the agreement between SAG-AFTRA and Narrativ — an online AI audio advertising marketplace — allows union members who choose to participate to create a digital voice replica and list it on the Narrativ platform for advertisers to license. Members set their own pricing (at or above SAG-AFTRA Audio Commercials Contract minimums), specify categories of ads they will or will not accept, and must give explicit consent for each commercial created. Every ad generated via the platform triggers a pension and health contribution for the performer. If a member leaves the platform, Narrativ must delete their digital voice replica and all recordings used to create it.
