Suno's Privacy Notice states that the company uses 'User Activity Information, Submissions, Interactive Chat Information, and other Content to improve our Services, product offerings, promotional activity, and business, including to train and enhance the models that power our Services.' The dataset used to train the original AI models has not been publicly disclosed by Suno. In 2024, major record labels sued Suno, alleging training on copyrighted recordings without permission; Suno acknowledged using copyrighted music in training while arguing it falls under fair use.

Suno integrated AI-powered music editing tools into a browser-based studio environment called Suno Studio, launched in 2025 following its acquisition of WavTool in June 2025. The studio lets users edit, remix, and refine AI-generated tracks using tools including stem separation, AI-generated MIDI, and a song editor.
After acquiring WavTool—a browser-based DAW with AI capabilities—Suno incorporated those tools into its own platform. Suno Studio offers features such as section-level editing (replace, extend, crop), stem separation that splits a song into individual instrument tracks, AI-generated MIDI output, VST plugin support, live recording, and an in-app chatbot for real-time music editing guidance. As of early 2026, Suno Studio is in beta and requires a Premier subscription (approximately $30/month).
Suno offers 'Add Vocals' and 'Add Instrumentals' features, introduced in the v4.5+ update in May 2025, that allow users to layer AI-generated vocals onto existing instrumental tracks or generate AI-produced backing music around an uploaded vocal recording. These features are available to paid subscribers.
Add Vocals lets a user upload an instrumental track and receive AI-generated vocals matched to it, while Add Instrumentals lets a user upload a vocal recording (even a simple hummed melody) and receive a full AI-produced instrumental arrangement around it. A third related feature called 'Inspire' allows users to point the AI at one of their own playlists and receive a newly generated track that matches the musical style of those songs. These features are described by Suno as 'first-of-their-kind professional audio production tools' and are restricted to Pro and Premier subscribers.
