The Teammates prototype places AI-driven non-player characters (NPCs) named Pablo and Sofia, plus an AI voice assistant named Jaspar, inside a first-person shooter level built on the Snowdrop engine. Jaspar receives player voice commands as input and produces spoken contextual responses, in-game actions (highlighting enemies, adjusting HUD settings, pausing the game), and tactical guidance as output. The system integrates third-party large language models including Google Gemini and ChatGPT via a modular middleware platform Ubisoft built so it can switch models without rebuilding the underlying system; as of November 2025, the primary LLM stack was running Google Gemini 2 on Google's servers, with Ubisoft's director of data and AI stating the company's intention to move toward local model inference in future. The earlier Neo NPC prototype (GDC 2024) used Nvidia's Audio2Face and Inworld's LLM; Teammates represents a progression into active gameplay contexts. Ubisoft described Teammates as both a playable prototype and a testbed for underlying technology.
