Udio announced a new licensed AI music creation, consumption, and streaming platform, developed in partnership with Universal Music Group, scheduled to launch in 2026 and trained exclusively on authorized and licensed music.

On October 29, 2025, Udio and Universal Music Group settled their copyright infringement litigation and announced plans to co-develop a new subscription-based platform. The new platform will be trained on UMG-authorized recorded music and publishing assets. UMG artists and songwriters will be able to opt in and receive compensation for their music used in AI training and for subscriber-generated outputs. During the transition period, Udio's existing service will operate as a 'walled garden' — meaning generated music cannot be downloaded — with fingerprinting, filtering, and other measures applied. The new platform was announced for Q2 2026 launch.
