UMass Memorial Health integrated AEYE Health's AEYE-DS, an autonomous AI diagnostic tool, into its electronic medical record system in 2024 to screen diabetic patients for eye disease during primary care visits.

AEYE-DS is an FDA-cleared AI solution that analyzes retinal images to autonomously detect diabetic retinopathy, providing immediate results within primary care settings without requiring a specialist referral. The system was integrated into UMMH's existing EMR workflow so that staff can initiate screenings and receive results during the same patient visit. Within four months of deployment, diabetic retinopathy screening adherence at the pilot family medicine clinic increased from 29% to 49%, and average screening time was reduced by 75%.
