Lazy Bear Games co-founder and CTO Slava Cherkasov tested generative AI tools — including ChatGPT's image generation — to create images inspired by the studio's own games, sharing results publicly on social media in 2025. The company has explicitly stated that AI has not been used in any of its shipped or in-development games.

Cherkasov shared AI-generated images on X (formerly Twitter), including visuals inspired by Graveyard Keeper, and stated 'Image creation by ChatGPT is fun' in March 2025. Community reports also noted AI-assisted code generation requests attributed to his personal accounts. When players raised concerns about the Graveyard Keeper 2 announcement in April 2026, Cherkasov replied on Reddit: 'You may not believe me, but we're not using the AI in Graveyard Keeper 2' and described his activity as personal technical experimentation unrelated to the studio's games or its team of roughly eight artists.
