iRobot deployed Dirt Detective, an AI feature in select Roomba j9-series robot vacuums, that analyzes past cleaning history to predict which rooms are dirtiest and automatically determines the order and intensity of each cleaning session without user input. The feature launched in September 2023 and was extended to the Roomba Combo 10 Max in July 2024.

Powered by iRobot OS, Dirt Detective tracks per-room cleaning history, dirt sensor events, and floor type to build a room-by-room cleanliness assessment map visible in the iRobot Home App. The system predicts which rooms need attention most and adjusts settings such as suction power, number of passes, and cleaning order accordingly. Users can view the cleanliness map or trigger Dirt Detective mode directly from the app.
