The foundational technology, called vSLAM (Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), uses camera-based landmark recognition to build a spatial map as the robot moves. More recent models use iAdapt 3.0 Navigation with Imprint Smart Maps, storing maps of multiple floors and auto-labeling rooms. The Roomba Combo 10 Max (2024) added machine learning to create complete home maps seven times faster and automatically label room types. Maps are stored in the iRobot Home App and enable room-by-room scheduling, custom clean zones, and keep-out zones.
