The tool was launched in open beta in November 2025 and is available to all Pantone Connect users, including those on free accounts.
The Palette Generator is built on Microsoft Azure OpenAI and uses Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic technology to semantically search Pantone's proprietary Color Insider articles and trend forecasting content, grounding each palette suggestion in Pantone Color Institute research. Users type descriptive prompts — such as 'Show me colors that evoke optimism in Gen Z' — and receive Pantone-indexed palettes alongside the forecasting rationale behind each selection. At launch, the tool supported Pantone's Fashion, Home & Interiors library, with plans to expand to the full Pantone catalog.

Pantone integrated its color reference system into Heuritech's AI-powered fashion trend forecasting platform, allowing Heuritech clients to map social-media-detected color trends directly to Pantone color codes. This partnership was announced in April 2020 and has produced co-branded seasonal color trend reports.
Heuritech's platform uses AI-based image recognition to analyze millions of social media images daily, identifying and quantifying the adoption of colors among consumers and influencers. The platform can recognize 500 Pantone color codes in fashion imagery. By linking Heuritech's detected social media color trends to Pantone's standardized color references, fashion brands can translate digital trend signals into production-ready Pantone specifications. The practice belongs primarily to Heuritech as the AI operator; Pantone's role is to provide its color reference system as the output standard.
